There is a turbine integrated in parallel with an old refurbished mill, with a gross jump of 3.2 m and a constant flow of 270 l / s; the set is part of the facilities of the Hotel Rural Sucuevas in Cangas de Onís.
The project consists of taking advantage of the available energy (about 6 electric kW), to operate a geothermal heat pump in open cycle, with the cold focus (exchange coil) installed on the channel itself, in such a way that the operation of the turbine is concomitant with the thermal exchange in it, and the hot focus against the hotel rooms.
Due to the effectiveness of these machines, with a COP (Production Coefficient) around 5, it will be possible to convert the 6 kW electric in about 30 thermal kW, taking care of all the heating and ACS needs of the whole hotel.
Currently these needs are covered with a diesel boiler, with which the system will hybridize, with the intention of minimizing the consumption of this fossil fuel. The project will monitor this challenge and validate the technology for this application.
In the future it is also planned to cover the needs of cold (air conditioning), by means of an aerothermal system that will be based on the same principles.
