The Solvay industrial plant is located in Torrelavega in the province of Cantabria. There, the Saja River derives part of its channel for the industrial process that the plant requires.
Taking advantage of the permit to use the water and a small existing waterfall, we installed 2 parallel Hydroscrews© which are able to produce a total of 70kW of power, 35kW each.
Knowing the natural surroundings where the Hydroscrew© will be installed is essential. SINFIN BARREDA Hydraulic Plant uses a height of 2 meters and a flow rate of 5 cubic meters per second between the two turbines.
The entire project takes 4 months, counting on the development of all the civil works necessary for its implementation, as well as the development and manufacturing of the turbines which is carried out by MILSA. The civil work is carried out at the same time as the development of the turbines which results in an agile project of the highest quality.
The energy produced will be used to sell to the electrical grid and also for experimental non-domestic self-consumption projects.
This project is a 100% Fish-Friendly development, taking advantage of an approved fish scale already existing in the environment in which the turbines will be installed. The turbines, in turn, impede the entry to the fluvial ecosystem to its lower part and they are capable of transporting the fish due to the geometry of its blades.
The return on investment for the customer lies in the sale of the energy produced by this micro-hydraulic powerplant to the electrical grid and will be redemeed between 7 and 8 years after its start-up, in the summer of 2018.
